Innovative creep drive motor
POCLAIN Hydraulics recently released an innovative new creep drive motor, which is now available in New Zealand through Hyspecs. A creep drive is a hydrostatic transmission that is installed on an existing mechanical transmission of a truck to allow a regular, relatively slow motion.
The creep drive motor has a through-drive with an integral motor and clutch pack, which allows the mechanical transmission output to run straight through to the driven axle. The creep drive is installed on the driveline between the truck gearbox and the rear axle(s) and power to the creep drive motor is supplied via a closed loop hydraulic pump powered directly off the truck’s PTO.
When a creep speed is needed, the operator selects neutral in the transmission and engages the creep drive. The hydraulic motor then becomes the power supply for the driven axle, with control from the cab by a proportional joystick. The truck speed will be zero to eight km/h.
Typical applications for the creep drive system include bridge and tunnel inspection trucks, road marking or line stripping trucks, remote controlled concrete mixing trucks, gravel spreader trucks, water sprinkling trucks and special road/rail trucks.
