Product of the Month:

A RANGE of Smart cylinders from Norgren offers a number of benefits to installers and machine builders. These Smart cylinders feature an integral solenoid valve, position sensors and speed control in one clean line profile.

Having the solenoid valve and sensors internally mounted and concealed enables the cylinder to require only one air supply and one M12 electrical connector and cable per cylinder. A more conventional cylinder with a remote solenoid valve would require two cables (assuming double solenoid control), two cylinder hoses (one to the front, one to the rear), with cables from each of the reed switches.

The reduction in tube connections, fittings and cabling helps installers reduce installation time and costs.

Norgrens Smart cylinders are IP65 rated and include both LED position indicators on one end. A unique feature of the Smart cylinder design is that it still conforms to ISO 6431 and VDMA 24562 dimensional Standards. Although the cylinder features an integral solenoid valve and speed controls, in the rear end cover, its overall length still conforms to the ISO Standard.

The Smart cylinders can incorporate single or double solenoid control and two or three position functions. An optional ASi fieldbus-controlled version is available requiring only two-wire control of the solenoid valve and position sensors. Available cylinder bore sizes are 32 to 100mm.

Ideal applications include conveyors where long cabling and piping costs can be reduced, or machines that are assembled on site enabling easy connection and commissioning.
